We are known for assisting organisations in setting strategies and build culture that promote effective operations and maintain a safe and healthy environment. We also help our clients to plan for and manage physical and operational QHSSE risks across production value chain, projects lifecycle, and entire network of business entities and assets while also enhancing efficiencies and reducing costs.
The HR Generalist will work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention. The ideal candidate will provide advisory support to managers on full range of people management issues advising on appropriate policy, legislation and best practice so that appropriate solutions are applied which support the achievement of the company's objectives.
Principal Accountabilities
- Partner line managers to ensure smooth implementation of operational agenda/employee relation tasks.
- Ensuring actions are aligned to HR policies e.g. Recruitment, Exit management, Discipline, Engagement, Welfare
- Partner Line managers to create the appropriate performance culture in their teams by ensuring robust and consistent performance in the work place.
- Utilize employee data (turnover, absence, performance, demographies, talent and reward) to proactively diagnose potential issues.
- Responsible for the implementation of the management systems(OHSMS, EMS, QMS) in the department
- Implementation of company's policies and procedures including integrated management system project.
Generalist HR Advice and Guidance
- Build effective working relationships with employees at all levels, providing advice and guidance on a range of HR policies and HR related issues to support understanding and ensure effective communication of good HR practice.
- Build relationships with managers at all levels and develop a good understanding of their work.
- Monitoring, reviewing and updating of local HR policies and ensuring these are in line with current legislation.
- Handling HR matters reliably and in accordance with legal requirements.
- Act as case Manager for incoming employee relations issues, escalating where necessary to the HR Manager / Director.
- Support the business to implement business change initiatives in their areas, including redundancies, restructures and change of terms and conditions where appropriate.
- Coach Managers on performance management and sensitive employment matters, such as performance improvement plans.
- Promote good health and wellbeing in employees through various initiatives.
- Manage and coordinate health and welfare cases including Maternity leave and long-term absence, liaising with the employees, HR team and Reward team as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as reasonably requested by the HR Manager, leadership team and against the HR strategy plan
HR Systems, Data Management and Compliance
- Be accountable for ensuring accurate employee data in all core HR Systems ensuring updates are made in a timely manner.
- Ensure all trackers and employee files are updated and accurate and comply with internal policies.
- Provide reports regarding the workforce demographics for Senior Management.
- Comply with Data Protection and General Data Protections Regulations (GDPR) and ensure the security of employee information in accordance with legislation and best practice.
- Respond to Compliance matters and Internal/External audits in line with HR Risk map and ensure that all operational aspects of compliance reporting are addressed in line with HR Manager and HR operational team
Recruitment and Onboarding
- Manage recruitment of replacement positions and new roles for service lines in line with the role criteria and requirements.
- Work with vetted and approved recruitment agencies to source candidates where needed.
- Identify and vet potential agencies for new requirements.
- Advertise job descriptions and screen applications for all roles. Arrange interviews and assessments with candidates where required.
- Manage the pre-employment processes for new starters. The includes; completion of paperwork, vetting via Credence, ePotential compliance activities and checking that all relevant certificates and qualifications are up to date.
- Draft and issue offer letters and contracts of employment for new joiners.
Manage Day 1 inductions and work with functional units to ensure all employees complete the induction process.
Payroll & Benefits
- Manage the tracking and inputting of the monthly payroll for ensuring 100% accuracy
- Manage the enrolment and administration of the medical insurance and, or HMO schemes for employees
- Own and deliver assigned projects and priorities in line with deadlines as agreed with the HR Manager/ Director. Provide pro-active support with ad-hoc tasks where necessary. Ensure any issues are flagged to ensure delivery is in line with agreed deadlines.
Requirements
- A First Degree in any Social Science or similar discipline
- Certifications like PHR, SPHR, CIPM is a plus.
- Good knowledge and use of Microsoft Office packages & ERP systems (Knowledge of Navision& SharePoint will be an added advantage).
- 3 – 5 years’ experience as an HR Generalist – working within an integrated HRM model.
- Good understanding of the Nigerian Labor law and Employee Relations
- Extensive administrative experience within a Human Resources function
- Technical aptitude and a willingness to learn
- Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Experience of working in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders
- Clear communication skills (spoken and written)
- Knowledge of Nigerian employment law.
- Knowledge and experience of HR Information Systems
HR Projects and On-Going Team Priorities
- Own and deliver assigned projects and priorities in line with deadlines as agreed with the HR Manager/ Director. Provide pro-active support with ad-hoc tasks where necessary. Ensure any issues are flagged to ensure delivery is in line with agreed deadlines.
Preferred
- Knowledge of Nigerian employment law.
- Knowledge and experience of HR Information Systems
