On June 5, 2025, the world commemorated World Environment Day with the global theme “Ending Plastic Pollution.” Kevron Group, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Environment (FMEnv), Lagos State, and other partner organizations, proudly marked the occasion by raising awareness among youths, local community members, market women, and secondary school students on ways to beat plastic pollution and promote a greener future for all.
The event began on June 3 with a cleanup and awareness campaign at Costain Park, Lagos. Sustainability experts and professionals from various organizations, including FMEnv, Kevron Group, LAWMA, Sonnex Packaging Nigeria, Lagos Free Zone, and others, shared insights and practical ideas for tackling plastic pollution.
The celebration continued on June 5 at the FMEnv Conference Hall in Lagos, featuring a keynote presentation by Dare Ayodele on Ending Plastic Pollution, where innovative alternatives to plastics were unveiled. The program also included a thought-provoking drama and poem on plastic waste performed by secondary school students, and an exhibition from the students showcasing creative plastic waste conversions into useful items. As part of the celebration, Kevron Group awarded grants to support environmental initiatives by secondary schools. Cheques were presented to three winning schools: Lagos Progressive Senior Secondary School, Surulere Senior Secondary School, and Community Senior High School, Surulere. Competitions were also held among representatives from various companies and members of the public, with prizes awarded to the winners.
Kevron Group expresses sincere gratitude for the tremendous support received from all stakeholders and extends special thanks to the Federal Ministry of Environment for hosting this impactful initiative. Together, we are taking bold steps to ensure that Lagos State leads the charge in ending plastic pollution.
