Operational Safety Governance in Ghanaian Construction

The acceleration of major capital infrastructure in Ghana—including flyovers, port logistics basins, commercial towers, and industrial plant erection—demands verified, standardized worker competence. Under the Factories, Offices and Shops Act (Act 328) and the Ghana National Building Code (GS 1207:2018 Part 10), principal contractors and subcontractors bear statutory legal duties to safeguard site personnel, enforce temporary works inspections, and prevent catastrophic falls and structural collapses.

Kevron's five flagship programmes provide the exact technical qualifications, hazard control mechanisms, and practical site inspection protocols required by the Department of Factories Inspectorate (DFI) and the Ministry of Roads and Highways.

Statutory Compliance Scope

  • Factories Act (Act 328): Mandatory scaffold registers, crane lift permits, and accident notifications.
  • GS 1207:2018 (Building Code): Section 10 provisions for edge protection, structural shoring, and public safety.
  • Minerals Commission L.I. 2182: High-risk surface mining civil work and excavation slope stability standards.

Statutory Frameworks & Principal Contractor Duties

Act 328 compliance, legal liability, GS 1207:2018 provisions, client & contractor statutory boundaries.

Module 02

Pre-Construction Information & Phase Health Plans

Authoring practical Construction Phase Plans, site logistics, welfare facilities, hazardous zone segregation.

Module 03

High-Risk Construction Operations & Permit Systems

Hot work, lifting operations, confined spaces, temporary electrical installations, and simultaneous operations.

Module 04

Evidence preservation, witness interviewing, TapRooT/5-Whys methodology, and reporting to statutory authorities.

Field Testing

Certified Simulation Rigs & Practical Drills

Safety competence cannot be certified by written exams alone. Delegates must demonstrate physical aptitude and procedural rigor in controlled, hazard-simulated environments.

Harness Donning & Suspension Syncope Drill Every delegate dons a full-body harness, executes anchor transfers, and participates in timed suspension trauma relief drills.
Scafftag Inspection & Tag Signoff Physical inspection of sole plates, screw jacks, bracing, and ties on our outdoor rig, culminating in an authenticated Scafftag status signoff.
Soil Classification & Trench Shoring Box Setup Manual soil ribbon tests, moisture evaluation, and simulated aluminum hydraulic shoring installation following OSHA 1926 Subpart P tables.

Assessment Integrity Gate

Delegates are assessed against strict criteria before certificates of competence are issued:

  • Minimum 80% score on statutory knowledge examination.
  • 100% flawless score on critical safety checks (harness pre-use inspection, 100% tie-off).
  • Completion of an applied site risk assessment or inspection checklist.
Zero Tolerance Policy: A failure on any critical life-safety checkpoint results in immediate remediation prior to credential signoff.

Selection Guide

How to Choose the Right Construction Safety Track

A structured decision matrix to match your team's operational risk profile with the proper qualification.

Decision Factor 1

Site Seniority

If leading overall project governance and managing subcontractors, select Programme 01: Site Safety Management.

Decision Factor 2

Elevation Risk

If personnel work above 2 metres or on temporary structures, prioritize Programme 02 (Height) and Programme 03 (Scaffold).

Decision Factor 3

Subsurface Hazards

If operating earthmoving plant or entering trenches over 1.2m depth, select Programme 04: Excavation Safety.

Decision Factor 4

Risk Planning

If authoring method statements (RAMS) or managing incident closeouts, select Programme 05: Risk Assessment.

Workforce Scale

Corporate Contractor Safety Packages

Do you need to upskill an entire subcontractor workforce of 20 to 200+ site operatives? We provide custom on-site induction pipelines, bilingual delivery where needed, and unified corporate invoicing in Ghanaian Cedis (GHS).

Technical FAQs

Construction Safety Training Clarifications

Key details regarding practical prerequisites, weather contingencies, and certification validity.

What are the physical prerequisites for the Working at Height and Scaffolding courses?
Delegates must be medically fit to climb and free from conditions such as vertigo, severe epilepsy, or heart conditions. Prior to physical tower climbing drills, delegates complete a medical self-declaration and undergo a blood pressure pre-check.
What happens if severe weather occurs during outdoor practical rig training in Takoradi?
In accordance with safety protocols, practical outdoor climbing and scaffolding work is suspended during heavy tropical downpours or high wind events. Theory, equipment inspection, and risk assessment modules are rotated forward in our covered classrooms until safe rig conditions resume.
How long are Kevron construction safety certificates valid?
Certificates of Competence for high-risk programmes (Working at Height, Scaffolding Inspection, Excavation Safety) are valid for 2 or 3 years depending on the awarding body standard. Refresher training is recommended thereafter to ensure compliance with updated statutory guidelines.
